Lower Calf Creek Falls is one of the most iconic hikes in Escalante, Utah, nestled within the vast and rugged beauty of Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument.
This 6.2-mile (10 km) round-trip trail winds along a perennial stream, through a sun-soaked canyon of towering red rock walls and desert flora, leading to a stunning 126-foot waterfall that plunges into a cold, clear pool you can swim in—a perfect reward on a warm day. 👙
Along the way, keep an eye on the opposite canyon wall for ancient Fremont pictographs painted high on the sandstone.
The hike is mostly flat with some sandy sections, and it’s dog-friendly, making it a great adventure to share with your pup. 🐾
Escalante, Utah is a small town located along Scenic Byway 12. It sits between Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef National Parks and serves as a gateway to Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument, a vast landscape of canyons, cliffs, and hidden waterfalls.
