But at one point I pushed my dreams to the side, not because I didn’t have the smarts, but because I had never seen anyone that looked like me to make me believe that I could actually do it. #representationmatters But after my first semester of college I told myself, no Erica, Don’t give up on your dream, you will see that person, it’s just going to have to be you. 🙌🏼 There are significant health care barriers, inequalities, and poorer outcomes in the Latino/Hispanic population. Having Latinos better represented in medicine is necessary for our communities and for the future of medicine in the United States. We can talk about health disparities all day long, but showing kids like me when I was little that you can get that white coat and help your comunidad, that’s what will really make a difference.♥️ On October 1st, We are celebrating #nationallatinophysicianday and #nationallatinaphysicianday created by @michaelgalvezmd and @doctor_cesar_ to Help us create awareness around the need for more Latino and Latina Doctors.
