✨💀Guíame Xoloitzcuintli💀✨ . . New illustration! Digitally painted Xoloitzcuintli character design. . The Xoloitzcuintli is a hairless breed dog originated from México. Xolotl is the Aztec god of fire & lighting & itzcuīntli, which means “dog” in Nahuatl. These dogs have a long acient history with Aztec & Mayan cultures. The symbolism behind these beautiful creatures is said to be a guide for souls to enter the after life & they were also known to protect their owners home from evil spirits. Ceramic sculptures have been found in Aztec & Mayan sites, & now modern artesanos in México often depict them as Alebrijes caring on the tradition of their cultural significance as spirit guides. I’ve been wanting to create my version of a Xoloitzcuintli for a while now but I was unsure of how I wanted to represent this animal but I knew one thing, I wanted to depict this Xoloitzcuintli as if they were a deity. I am very happy with how this piece turned out & excited I could share it with you all. .
