Where do parol guide us nowadays kapamilya?
Back in the day, parol, or star lanterns, began as a tradition to guide Mass goers to church in the dark, early morning hours of December as Christmas inched closer and closer. Meant to evoke the image of the Star of Bethlehem guiding the Three Wise Men to the manger where Jesus was born, these lanterns nowadays can be handmade from tissue paper, tassels, glue, and bamboo! Other variations might include cellophane, or even Capiz shells.
Every year, the Annual Community Christmas Party at FCS has a timeslot dedicated to a parol-making contests, where kids and their families craft their best-looking parols for the judges and audience to appraise. The top three lucky winners got prizes like crisp, new $5 bills or gift cards!
