Greetings from the Amazonian jungle in Brazil where I have just emerged after a 10 day odyssey with 15 warriors . We began our journey with a 6 hour bus ride bumping & swerving around pot holes from Rio Branco to Tarauacá then boarded this rickety boat where we were sardined together for 3 days on the Humaita river making our way to the Huni Kuin’s remote village in a roadless corner of the State of Acre. This entire trip was a test in all matters of humanity: patience, tolerance, and surrender in the face of sweaty, dirty, suffocating discomfort. The boat had no bathroom, no chairs, no beds, no privacy and no escape. We were pummeled by the incessant pounding of a jackhammer motor for 12 hours each day, then eaten alive by miscroscopic bugs once we stopped at sunset to string our hammocks up in the dark. Brutal? Yes. But there were also moments of beauty, sharing, huddled-but-profound hape ceremonies led by curandero @abrahamlozanobrioso, and finding ways to relax even if just for a few minutes before our nervous systems got shot up and broken down once again. And this was before we’d even hit the moist, hot, decaying floor of the jungle! The boat journey was our first doorway, one of many portals of expanded consciousness that were explored on this 10 day journey through the mouth and into the raw belly of Gaia.
