😵💫the race recap nobody asked for😵💫
🏊♀️1.2 mile swim: looked like “D-Day,” according to mom & @rplinco. Apparently 35 or so people got pulled cuz even lifeguards couldn’t stay put. One guy puked 4 times. But I loved it & I cruised through the waves in 36 min. Just regretted wearing a wetsuit, which, as a sleeveless on top of a short sleeved tri suit, seriously chafed my pits. 🤷♀️
🚴♀️56 mile bike: My longest training ride was 27 miles on a nice day, so this was a painful feat. My bum hurt, legs ached, & I just tried to stay upright through the intense cross winds. I’m so slow even the folks with regular old sneakers passed me 😅. But I had moments of a good attitude, & kept reminding myself that how it feels now doesn’t mean this is how it’s always going to feel, which was true.💡
⚠️ mile 54, my front wheel caught in a grate on the bridge, and I flew off. I was SO close! And so mad at myself for such an avoidable mistake! It was miserable out, but I didn’t want to be done. 😭 Other racers sent a medic (named Ryan!) quickly back. I was dizzy but hadn’t hit my head. My bike was a bit bent up but not unrideable. My knee was bloody & throbbing but I could at least try to walk the half-marathon. At this point, any time goals were out the window, so I tried to listen to my Ryan, who yelled: just have fun!” 😂
🏃♀️13.1 mile run: The knee pain dissipated (or was superceded by regular ol quad soreness). Wind was at our backs half the time — & then in our faces, making it feel like a treadmill. But the miles ticked by. I never walked. Every time I got emotional thinking about how I was really doing it, I had to think about something else cuz crying makes it hard to breathe 🙃
🏁Somehow finished a few mins faster than my only other 70.3 😳What a wild ride! We do this for fun on a Saturday morning! 💪🏼😜 600 people either didn’t start or didn’t finish. I was *almost* one of them.
Bless @rplinco for being the best cheerleader & all the athletes & volunteers who pushed me along. & @melissa_tipsyscoop & @sayitaintsoul for the hospitality the night before when we were blissfully unaware of what was to come. 🙌🏼 the post race shower & beer was bliss. 🏅🍺
