We are thrilled to announce the representation of Otis Jones and welcome him to the gallery! Our first exhibition with Jones will open in New York on January 12, and will feature a selection of new works from his ongoing series of shaped canvases – ovals and circles constructed in layers that exert a sense of enormous weight, celebrating their own making while simultaneously vibrating with an ethereal, almost spiritual energy. With a career spanning over six decades, Jones began his life as an artist during the heyday of 1960s and ‘70s Minimalism. His practice is characterized by a reductive style that celebrates the ‘objectness’ and tactility of painting’s material identity and the labor of making. Serene and spare, the paintings exist unto themselves as complete, visceral objects that have achieved their own resolve. He likens his painterly practice to archeological processes. “I’m interested in objects, patina, wear and age. Each piece takes on its own geology. I don't hide anything. It’s a very real object.” Otis Jones: 'New Work' will be on view from January 12 - February 25, 2023. Please join us for the opening reception with the artist on Thursday, January 12 from 6-8pm. @0tisjones Images: Otis Jones 'Gray Band with One Black Circle,' 2022 64 x 55 x 4 inches (162.6 x 139.7 x 10.2 cm) Photo by Kevin Todora Portrait by Kent Barker
