This #ThrowbackThursday presents us with a photo taken back from 1944 and shows passengers (from left to right) "Porky" Morales, an unidentified man in the white hat, Carl "The Swede" Larsen, and up top, running the boat, Dick Hernage all aboard the fishing boat, "Chove." ⁠ ⁠ The scene depicted in this photo was very typical of Santa Monica Yacht Harbor (the Pier area) during the war years of the early-to-mid-1940s when fishing boats were pushed out of Long Beach Harbor and Oxnard Harbor by the U.S. Navy. Fishing boats needed a new home, and the Pier (and Harbor) was the nearest, best fit.
