The average American consumes almost 2 cans of Coke worth of added sugars each day. Condiments and processed foods are often a source of unhealthy ingredients like highly-processed additives and added sugars, which can cause your blood sugar to rise rapidly 📈 🍩 Some reports say we are eating 152 pounds of sugar per year, per person, while other sources reference 66 pounds of added sugar per year. Regardless, it’s a lot. Our body has to process all that unnatural load that’s breaking down our metabolic machinery. The large glucose spikes our bodies have to process result in the connected phenomena of oxidative stress, fat storage, insulin resistance, endothelial (blood vessel) dysfunction, and mitochondrial dysfunction. So what do we do about added sugars? 🤔 👉 Try to avoid foods with refined sugars by reading the nutrition labels. Be aware of the dozens of names for hidden sugar like agave nectar, corn syrup solids, dextrose, sorghum syrup, and more. One of our advisors @RobertLustigMC published a shopper’s guide for the 56 different names for sugar (linked in our bio). 👉 Cook at home and choose whole foods that supply your body with the key nutrients it needs: Colorful vegetables for antioxidants and micronutrients, diverse plant foods, fermented foods, fiber-rich sources, omega-3s, spices and herbs for antioxidant properties, and avoid refined seed oils and refined grains. 👉 Educate yourself about food marketing. Foods labeled “low sugar” or “low glycemic” can still be full of added sugar. Choose quality trusted condiment brands like @PrimalKitchenFoods or @whole30. #sugar #cocacola #metabolichealth #metabolism #health #healthy
