Have you ever done your own protective style? 👩🏾🦱
This audio came just in time for me💀
I have always thought about doing my own braids, twists, or locs! After all, I already do everything else for my hair😂
But I was always intimidated because I didn’t want to be frustrated with myself😂 Plus it could take FOREVER and my arms be HURTING OK!! 🥲
But nonetheless, as you guys know, about a month ago, I successfully did my own faux locs! ✅
Here’s a few tips that I learned doing my own protective style for the first time:
- Prep well! Make sure your hair is clean and moisturized! 🫧 Don’t forget to deep condition and detangle throughly! 💦
- Have everything on hand! Make sure you have ALL of your supplies (combs, brushes, edge control/gel, rubber bands, hair, snacks😂, oil, etc) so you can easily access everything without stopping! 🪥
- Keep your ends trimmed! No single strand knots or split ends! This will make installation and take down so much easier! Plus it’ll help with length retention if you’re looking to grow your hair! 💇🏽♀️
- Don’t install your protective style too tight. Just...don’t. 🫣
- Turn on a good movie/show! I love binging a new show when doing my hair! It makes the time fly by and before you know it, you’ll be finished! ⌚️
- Be patient with yourself! Especially if it’s your first time! Doing your own natural hair can be frustrating and adding more hair into the mix can make it worse! Don’t worry too much about parting—especially in the back. Take your time, do it right, and it’ll all pay off in the end! 💚
