Today, we are highlighting young womxn who are leading equity initiatives and action taking in our community. Meet Emely, Zahra, and Sabrina, seniors at Salem Academy Charter School in Salem Massachusetts. In collaboration with The Welcome Immigrants Network, these leaders are coordinating a fundraiser to create a scholarship for undocumented students in Salem. “We have learned how undocumented immigrants [face] many challenges in their day to day lives. We are hoping that with this, people will see learn, act, and reflect on the hardships that undocumented immigrants face everyday.” “Through this project, our goal is to find a way to give undocumented students better access to higher education. Undocumented students don’t have the same [institutional access] to financial support to attend college compared to U.S citizens and residents. This small step of creating a scholarship will be one of the things that brings these students closer to breaking structural barriers of pursuing higher education and attaining degrees.” Check out these organizations doing work to empower undocumented young people: @immigrantsrising @unitedwedream #womxn #leaders #local #localleaders #womenshistorymonth #onward #empowerment #empoweringwomen #elevatingvoices
