(3 of 3) The Topography Plate took shape through surrendering to my intuition, an act tested by seemingly relentless failures, but fueled by the inspiration of the natural world and the patience of water as it carves away at stone. Since the inception of BRCJ Designs one-year-ago, I vowed that my work would contain passion, love, and a commitment to myself and my intuition. After an abrupt, unexpected, and deeply painful split from my professional life shortly after the start of the pandemic, I fell into a depression. I started a practice of making as a way to soothe my pain, and, in doing so, I was able to rediscover the joy of creation. Each product embodies the hope that kept me going during that period. Whether entertaining guests or enjoying a night to yourself, this food-safe cast-concrete plate presents a landscape of options and opportunities for you to indulge in the culinary delights of your choosing. Custom designed topographic variations create pools and grooves for a variety of uses, including a dedicated groove to keep a utensils from falling off the plate in transit and a flat plain that acts as a cutting or presentation surface. The cast form creates footings that elevate the surface slightly above the table, creating easy fingerholds for picking up and setting down the piece. Limited series of 50 plates will be produced.
