#OnKawara was an influential Japanese Conceptual artist, known for, among others, his “I Got Up” series, a collection of thousands of postcards that were sent twice a day to different friends, artists, and colleagues between 1968-1979. Each card was stamped with the addresses of the recipient and sender, as well as the time Kawara got up and out of bed that day. This intimate and personal body of work serves as a reflection on existence and the passage of time.
Pictured here is a postcard from December 14, 1972, exactly 50 years ago.
