âĄď¸Look, skin cycling has been around for a long time, but it was just given a new name but nonetheless this is still great! I love it because its encouraging more more people to rotate their products accordingly.
â
Giving your skin (days) breaks in between exfoliating actives is so important. âWe donât want to strip your skin from its natural oils or over exfoliate as it will cause greater irritation.
â ď¸For those who have super sensitive skin I also recommend that on top of skin cycling, you can do what we call the sandwich method with retinol.
Eg. If you are starting out with a new retinol, instead of using it straight after cleansing your skin, you can apply a moisturiser on, then let it absorb then go in with your retinol and again with your moisturiser. This sandwich methods allows your skin to slowly get use to the new active and when youâre ready you can skip the moisturiser after cleansing and go ahead with the retinol then use the moisturiser only once.
â
Much like rest days you take from the gym, taking breaks for your skin to heal before you use stronger actives helps your skin reap the benefits of stronger products. â ď¸If you push your skin too hard, your barrier will be compromised and the actives you use will do more damage than good.
â ď¸Donât start with this 4 day cycling until your skin barrier is strengthened. Sometimes skip the retinol altogether for 1-2+ weeks until your skin is ready to handle it!
