In lieu of the impending possibility of Roe v. Wade being overturned, we want to recognize the importance of bodily autonomy. Swipe for some facts relating to abortions within the disability community. 1. Disabled people are 3.5 times more likely than non-disabled people to experience sexual assault. This number is nearly 7 times higher for those with intellectual disabilities. 2. Disabled adults are nearly twice as likely to report unmet health needs because of barriers to care, such as: financial barriers and physically inaccessible doctors offices. 3. Nearly one in 10 disabled people lack health insurance. Medicare does not cover abortions. 4. Even for those who are able to access health insurance, research suggests that having a physical disability increases the likelihood of having unmet health needs and poor health outcomes. 5. Only 1 in 4 people with disabilities is employed, compared to more than two-thirds of people without disabilities. This leads to many disabled people not being able to afford basic necessities, nonetheless afford the expenses of raising a child. 6.
