Working as a commercial photographer I often find myself between the model and the client. Even though my client pays me, my loyalty lies with the model and their dignity. During any shoot I always show the model the images as we go in order to get a nod of approval on how they’re being portrayed. Even though they’ve signed away their rights for the client to use their likeness. I remember one shoot where I showed the model an image and she didn’t like it. So I decided to shoot more till she was comfortable with what what was being produced. The client turned to me and said “actually it doesn’t matter if she doesn’t like it, it’s our opinion that matters.” I was shocked and so I snapped right back and said, “actually the models opinion is the most important one in the room. More important than my opinion and yours. If she doesn’t like an image then you won’t get that image in your selection.... Understood?” That’s a major reason why I created this series titled “We Breathe”
