Meet Domenico Rositano, he has been donating to BCCF Urban Harvest’s surplus produce for the past three years. Domenico, his wife Maria, and their children who have since moved out, have been living in their current home for the past 45 years and the grape vine in the photo is just as old! Our Urban Harvest team went and gathered a wild total of 144 lbs of grapes native to this region which will be shared amongst community members and local food banks. 🍇 The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now. - Chinese Proverb A lot of Italians that immigrated had the foresight to plant grape vines and fruit bearing trees such as apples and pears in their own backyards in the Black Creek neighborhood when they started moving here in the 1960s. Decades later, we are still reaping the bountiful harvest from these vines and trees that benefits our community. As we celebrate Urban Agriculture this week, remember that every plant that we put in the ground has an impact years down the line. Let’s keep growing! The BCCF Urban Harvest program helps channel good food from local growers to food banks and meal programs in the Black Creek community. This program is in partnership with the City of Toronto’s Community Reduce and Reuse Programs. #communitysharing #producesharing #TOharvests #urbanharvestblackcreek #CRRP
