This week's project: breaking down my plant room for the year 😭😭😭 . This is where me and my plants hang out during the warmer weather months. I'm not sure what you'd call this room... it's like a sunroom but shitter (more shitty?). It's built on to the back of our house but it's not heated or particularly insulated and the roof could collapse at moment. I think whoever built it was drunk or something. I probably could've done a better job. Except for the floor. My husband redid the floor last year and I love it. It's concrete btw not wood. Anyway! It's getting cold so all of my babies must move indoors. And the process takes absolutely forever. Not only do I have to figure out where to put all of these motherfuckers in my house, I also wash them with a soapy rag and then hose them off to remove the dust and kill any stray bugs lurking in the crevices. I also prune any yucky leaves and clean all of their pots, top off the soil etc. Oh and in case you were wondering, all of those water jugs on that bookshelf are rain water. Most plants are perfectly fine with drinking tap water but I have a preference for diva tropical plants (calatheas and Alocasias in particular) that will slowly self destruct if exposed to the chlorine, fluoride etc that are used to treat drinking water. It makes their leaves all brown and crispy around the edges. Distilled water works too but rain water is free and I am cheap. I've heard a lot of plant people suggest that instead of using rain or distilled water, you can leave tap water out overnight and the chlorine will evaporate. But that's mostly a myth. Chlorine does evaporate but many municipalities (in the US at least) now use chloramine rather than chlorine to treat their water. Chloramine, unlike chlorine, does not evaporate when you let water sit out. That’s why it's being used more frequently: its antimicrobial effect is much more durable than that of chlorine. The more you know...🌈 I would love to blather on indefinitely about plants and all of my painted furniture but I'm out of room and only about 7 of you are still with me. Lemme know if you're curious about any plant in particular and I'll tell you all about them!
