Oasis summed it up best by saying “ but don’t look back in anger”
The full verse is:
"And so Sally can wait, she knows it's too late as we're walking on by/Her soul slides away, but don't look back in anger I heard you say"
It can be hard not to look back to what life was like pre-diagnosis and not get angry about how much it has changed all because a group of cells went haywire in your body.
I was unprepared for how much life and myself changed with the first diagnosis, and the second and then when it spread and I was declared Stage 4.
There have been some positive changes, yes but most changes have been really difficult.
6 months in I realised my life would never be the same despite me wanting to “get my life back.” The life I knew was done, that specific chapter was closed which meant I had to figure out how to move forward... without anger.
Don’t underestimate the impact a cancer diagnosis will have on you or your loved ones.
It is way beyond chemo, surgery and the like.
Try to not focus on “getting your old life or self back” for those who have been diagnosed.
Instead focus on looking forward and deciding what the new chapter will contain whilst being thankful for the life you had up until the point of change.
“Don’t look back in anger... I heard you say”💫 - Oasis
Save this for when you need to read it again!
How have you made sure you are not looking back in anger?
Are you still stuck on trying to get an old life back?
