The book pick for June is Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. I know this is already a popular book, there’s even a movie in the works by Amazon, but I thought it would be perfect for pride month as it is amazingly diverse in so many meaningful ways. One of the best things about the book is the sheer amount of representation and the way it manages to represent the variety of people without any becoming too stereotypical. 🌈 The book is set in an alternate reality where in 2016, a democrat from Texas became the first female president of the US. She’s also the mother of Alex: a 20 year old mixed race modern-day Kennedy who begins questioning his sexuality. The story kicks off after Alex accidentally ruins a royal wedding and is forced to make nice with his childhood nemesis, Prince Henry of Wales. Alex and Henry pretend they’re best friends for the press and, in a classic rom-com twist, their fake bromance turns into a full-blown “secret romance.” This book is much more than a love story, it’s a story of finding out who you are and acceptance, of yourself and by others. It’s a story of putting aside what’s expected of you and just being you! #readingwithraegan #bookstagram
