Announcement: We are excited to share highlights from the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia's 2023 exhibition program.
'The 2023 exhibition program marks the beginning of a new decade for the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, reflecting the dynamism, diversity, and expansive nature of contemporary art in Australia and beyond.' — MCA Director, Suzanne Cotter
In Autumn 2023:
• The biennial survey of contemporary art, 'The National 4: Australian Art Now', opens at the MCA on Friday 31 March. Artist names to be announced.
• 'MCA Collection: Eight Artists' features singular pieces by Sally Gabori, Raelene Kerinauia Lampuwatu, Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Naminapu Maymuru-White, Esme Timbery, Judith Wright and Gulumbu Yunupiŋu, alongside a new commission by Sandra Selig.
In Winter 2023:
• Acclaimed American artist, Zoe Leonard's first exhibition in Australia, presents her epic photographic work 'Al río / To the River'.
• Australian-born choreographer Adam Linder presents his first major work for a museum in Australia, conceived for the recently renamed Macgregor Gallery on Level 1 North.
• A new collection display jointly devised by the Museum’s curators unfolds as a series of artists' rooms to reveal the histories, trajectories, and highlights of the MCA Collection.
In Spring 2023:
• Beirut-born, Paris-based Tarek Atoui presents his first solo exhibition in Australia, 'Waters' Witness', a major
new sonic and sculptural installation.
• New Zealand-born, Sydney-based curator and artist Talia Smith guest curates the MCA's annual 'Primavera' exhibition.
In Summer 2023:
• The MCA's major exhibition will be presented as part of the Sydney International Art Series 2023/2024. Details to be announced in 2023.
