It's hard to put into words the past two weeks with @usamputeesoccer. A few things I know are: 1. It was the biggest honor in my life to represent my country, community, and team on the biggest stage of the sport I love: The World Amputee Football Cup (@waffworldcup2022) in Istanbul, Turkiye. Bigger than many of the achievements that preceded my career as an athlete because this time it didn't feel as individualistic. 2. Another thing I know is that it was the largest group of people I have ever seen with limb differences. Rarely feeling weird about it, but 100% loving it! Because that random dude during lunch carrying his plate from Liberia with crutches knew what that other random dude from Mexico with a prosthetic was going through without saying a word. An unspoken solidarity in creating normalcy. And not only that it was an event majority Disabled from crutch users, prosthetic leg users, wheelchair users, you name it. The athletes though. Holy hell! weren't just the average person with a limb difference, who if you're reading this you're hella cool don't get me wrong, but this was next level! This space was full of some of the strongest and most athletic individuals who happen to be missing a limb. Damn! They put me to shame on their skills and dedication to the world sport and this is in no way self-deprecating. I'm good at football but DAMN! They were GOOD at football! Like I keep saying, it goes to show when we create accessible and supportive environments individuals with all kinds of abilities THRIVE! at our fullest potential and "disabled" taken at face value is thrown out the door. Say it with me: WE ARE NORMAL! I owe this energy and experience to the whole team from our starting 7, our subs, captain, head coaches, med staff, PT, massage therapist, supporters aka 8th player, my parents and our sponsors! What an unforgettable time that will live on forever! Here's to #TeamUSA being ranked 15th best in the world out of 60 countries. And you better believe that the next go around we'll be bringing home the gold.
