🏖️ New by-the-glass at @ostudioatnight for the last days of summer: 🌄 Smoky, thirst-quenching old-vine país from Roberto Henríquez in Bío Bío. We’re in Chile’s far south, in a lush, rolling landscape of red granite hillsides and ancient bush vines that is the genesis of the country’s winemaking traditions—traditions that owe a lot to indigenous fruit fermentations and the people actually making the wines. (Hint: not the Jesuits and Dominicans ordering the planting.) It's a region a world away from the irrigated haciendas of the Central Valley, where copper mining millionaires imported French consultants to grow ersatz Bordeaux. It's a place where the Mapuche successfully preserved their autonomy from the Spanish by force of arms for three hundred years. Until very recently, the local wines were derided as jug juice for campesinos, and rarely made it out of the neighborhood. It's only been in the last decade that they've been recognized for what they are: Chile’s beating ancestral heart. Roberto Henríquez’s work in preserving these vines and embodying this place in his wines is worth celebrating. #ostudioBTG #childrensatlasofwine #givepaisachance
