STORY TIME✨Three of my friends separately asked me last week if I wanted to get a manicure with them. Each time, I was excited by the idea, but also felt nervous. I feared that if I painted my nails, I would be harassed or that I would no longer be considered attractive. Then, like the radical intersectional feminist that I am, I called myself out for accepting the arbitrary gendering of my body and for perpetuating the patriarchal understanding that anything designated as remotely feminine is inferior. So, I said yes to my friends, booked an appointment for today, and decided that I would keep my nails painted until I no longer felt uncomfortable.
