The first time I saw Antarctica was through this tiny porthole here on a C17 military aircraft that otherwise had no windows. The flight on a C17 from New Zealand to Antarctica is 5 hours if you’re not forced to turn around partway through due to bad weather (it happens and is called a boomerang flight). Being able to see the continent with my own eyes had been the culmination of over 5 years of effort in getting here.
