EMERGING DESIGNERS: SERA 🌞 “Creating pieces inspired by native narratives, to bring back the reminiscence of traditional clothes-making to a present-day genre.” Sera is an ongoing discovery of many Turkish narratives and techniques presented through textiles, volumes, and details, inspired by those native influences. Through collaborations with artists, craftspeople, and makers, the intention is to pass on their stories while bringing the traditional into a contemporary setting. Enriched with French know-how in the making, the well-considered fit, sensible details, and natural raw materials allow well- made and long-lasting garments presented in the form of cross-seasonal editions. Shown here, edition i and ii, utilises the ancient and traditional Turkish oya embroidery, created with the embroider Kumru Mısırlıoğlu in the designer's hometown, Trabzon, Turkey, working with old scarves gathered from family members. Inspired by the story of Oya, with the idea of oya as a language and a tool of communication, the prints were created in collaboration with the Paris-based painter Ana Karkar. These oil-pastel compositions are reminiscent of the patterns found on the traditional scarves yet interpreted through her contemporary landscape. 1.
