Since its inception in 2013, our @elephantcrisisfund has funded 392 grants across 44 countries. So how do they keep track of these projects? Aside from regular progress reports from the grantees, they make occasional field visits to the project sites. STE's Head of human elephant coexistence, Dr Lucy King, and a team from our @elephantsandbees_ste visited Upper Kitete village in Tanzania where @wild_survivors is working with the community to alleviate human-elephant conflict (HEC). Beehive fences, designed by Dr King in Kenya, are being used to prevent the elephants from crop-raiding the farmlands that directly border the forest. This first surrounds the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site home to around 1,000 elephants. Such collaboration allows the exchange of knowledge and ideas which is crucial in tackling the growing threat of HEC.
