Ùr⁣ ⁣ Tracing temporalities and the slipstreams of figuration, Standing Ground debuts a collection of modern⁣ evening wear and body ornament. Through proportion, silhouette and ornamentation, Standing Ground⁣ reanimates fragments of artefacts and landscapes. This collection, and the practice of Standing Ground more⁣ broadly, accentuates the specificity of the individual through sensitive draping, sculpting, and crafting.⁣ ⁣ This collection is titled Úr. Here, its meaning is threefold: it is a letter of the early Irish Ogham alphabet,⁣ meaning earth, soil and from Old Irish meaning fresh; Ur was an ancient Sumerian city-state in Mesopotamia;⁣ and as a prefix, ur- denotes the earliest or original. These affinities from deep pasts converge with speculative⁣ futures, collapsing into the ‘now’ of the body’s sensuality and plurality. Relics, artefacts, and ruins are prisms,⁣ each containing their own material, spiritual, ancestral, and temporal information. Working firstly through⁣ draping, this collection is a study in jersey. The fabric is manipulated by tailoring techniques and materials to⁣ create bespoke jersey forms.
