Happy first day of winter, New Yorkers! ❄️ Though this photograph from our collections was captured in the ‘40s or ‘50s, New York City’s largest snow storms were actually a lot more recent. In February 2006 and again in January 2016, more than 26 inches of snow enveloped the city. Since the winter of 2015-16, the Central Park Conservancy (@centralparknyc) has been responsible for taking New York City's official snowfall measurements for the National Weather Service. 📷: Photograph by the Wurt Bros., Museum of the City of New York, X2010.7.1.16299. #FirstDayOfWinter #WinterSolstice #NYHistory #NYCSnow
