Nenthra Pazham / Banana Halwa 🍌🌼 #RecipeAlert 🚨
Onam - the festival of merry-cooking and feasting,
marks the end of monsoons and welcomes the lovely season of harvest!
As the air is filled with joy and the festive vibes - we are prepping up on a sweet note!
As no Indian festival is complete unless there is some halwa, this Onam we are making Nenthra Pazham Hulva or Banana Halwa. It has a glossy texture and the dark colour comes from caramelised jaggery. This literally melts in your mouth and tastes like heaven.
We have served them in bowls, but you could also shape these using a mold and cut them in square fudges, by cooking it further as it thickens.
Made this under 30mins using staple ingredients
Here’s how -
🌼Ingredients🌼
Banana 4nos
Jaggery 150gms
Water 1⁄4 Cup
Cashew Nuts
Ghee
Cardamom powder - 1⁄2 Tsp
🌼Method🌼
Add ghee in a kadai and roast the cashew nuts till they turn light brown, transfer in a bowl and keep aside
Now to a saucepan, add 1/4th cup water and jaggery, let it melt completely and turn off the stove.
Peel off the skin and cut the bananas into small pieces, put them in a mixer and grind into a fine paste.
Now add the banana paste to the kadai and cook it with ghee for 10 mins. To this, add the jaggery syrup and cook for another 10 mins on low flame.
Next, add cardamom powder and a little more ghee and cook for another 5 mins.
Transfer in a bowl garnish with coconut flakes and roasted cashews
Happy Onam🌼 and I hope we made it right. Do share any versions or if we can make this better in the comments below 👇
