For the second installment of Book Club Curated, we were thrilled to be joined by the author of "Acceptance", Emi Nietfeld. In "Acceptance" Nietfeld deconstructs the enduring tale of resilience often tied to stories of upward mobility. Nietfeld's essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Rumpus, and Vice among others. She is a frequent Book Club attendee and Software Engineer— we can't wait to read what she writes next!
Emi's stack is as follows:
"Detransition Baby" - Torrey Peters
"A sexy, transgressive book about gender, family, and forging a new life when Plan A didn’t work out. Great for holiday breakups and the friend who is very upset about being single."
"Beautiful Country" - Qian Julie Wang
"A devastating, and secretly hilarious, book about the author’s (undocumented) childhood. Surprising literary toilet humor!"
"We are Never Meeting in Real Life" - Samantha Irby
"For your friend (or mom) who loves poop jokes and/or Sex and The City (Irby wrote an episode for the reboot!)"
"Sirens & Muses" - Antonia Angress
"A smart, sexy art school drama perfect to scandalize your mother in law. (**Especially** if you suspect she’s secretly bi.)"
"Easy Beauty" - Chloe Cooper Jones
"A philosophical yet grounded book about bodies, ambition, and the possibilities of travel — it was even better the second time. Perfect for the nephew who loves The Big Questions (but might not read women)."
"Post-Traumatic" - Chantal V. Johnson
"A dark, hilarious book about a young lawyer running from her past. Perfect for your friend who is estranged from their family — or should be."
