Aside from the essentials - cleanser, sunscreen, moisturizer, and retinol - there are additional products that you can include in your routine to further enhance the health and appearance of your skin. Some skincare routine add-ons that I love are.... Products to complement your routine: 🧴Eye creams can be helpful to deliver key ingredients to this thinner and more sensitive skin. However, most eye creams are glorified moisturizers and ineffective- make sure to look for ingredients like retinol, caffeine, vitamin K to help with rejuvenation. 🧴Exfoliants promote the removal of dead skin cells that clog pores and promote turnover of newer skin 🧴Face masks are infused with ingredients that can penetrate the skin to deliver their benefits over long periods of contact-time with the skin Ingredients to look for: 🧴Hyaluronic acid is a humectant that attracts water and hydrates the skin and reduces appearance of wrinkles and fine lines 🧴Niacinamide (vitamin B3) has antioxidant properties, reduces inflammation, and brightens skin 🧴Growth factors and peptides are proteins that stimulate cellular repair, collagen and elastin production and cell turnover 🧴Squalene is a lipid that’s naturally produced by the skin and is found in sebum and serves as a lightweight moisturizer. 🧴Brightening ingredients (kojic acid, hydroquinone, tranexemic acid) help to even skin tone and reduce sun damage 🧴Acne ingredients (benzoyl peroxide, salicylic, glycolic) can kill bacteria and exfoliate the skin These are some of my favorite products to incorporate in an advanced regimen, but there are many other great products out there. Also, remember not all of them are necessary. Skincare is personal and needs to be customized for your skin. The ingredients need to align with your goals. and you need to be sure these ingredients are safe in combination and complement each other. Some ingredients can cause irritation or even inactivate each other if used in combination. I’d recommend consulting with your board-certified dermatologist to help you craft the perfect regimen!
