In news that will surprise no one, our landlord has decided to raise the rent on our rental and we are now scrabbling around yet again to find somewhere to live. I’m sure the people who messaged me to say I was an idiot (verbatim 🤣) to decorate a rental will be thinking ‘told you so’. It’s true that unless you own in this country, there is always going to be this kind of insecurity. But it also probably won’t surprise you that I’m leaning into the light and not harbouring any resentment. The truth is we could only to afford to live here because I swung a huge discount during the covid era, so really, we knew we were on borrowed time. We’ve had two amazing years and taken several steps towards buying our own home, not least finding out exactly where we want to settle down. I don’t feel the mad sense of panic I did before the baby came and while I will (obviously 🤣) make the next rental house a home, I’m way more at peace with being in this transitory moment. Of course, I may not be quite so zen by day 72 of packing boxes or after speaking to Foxtons 119 times. I will definitely shed a tear when we leave our rainbow behind 🌈💔 It could also have come at an easier time as I’ve got Grey starting school, Ripley starting nursery and another driving test booked that month...And God, it’s fricking relentless when you’ve been striving so hard for something for so long and it keeps feeling further out of your reach. But I keep the faith that we will get there and when we do and look back, this wonderful home will be yet another patch in our family’s tapestry. As a stoic @haden_ always reminds me that the obstacle is the way, so the more hoops we jump, the higher we reach in terms of our fulfilment in the end. At least that’s the theory...by this point it better be Buckingham Palace 🙈🤣 If anyone has a three bed in Chiswick that they are looking to fill with tenants for a year, DM me.
