"Today would have been my dad's 84th birthday. My dad was Jim Bronner, Dr. Bronner's younger son, a chemist, inventor, and friend to all. He passed away 24 years ago, but on this, his birthday, I reflect upon one of my favorite of his inventions—something that makes my life easier every single day: Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner. My dad was not one to live with a frustration. He was a fixer. One thing that frustrated him was how the Castile Soap reacted with the minerals in hard water, which we had in hefty doses in Los Angeles, and would leave a film that we commonly call soap scum. So my dad undertook to formulate a cleanser that would not react with hard water, which meant it would have to be a detergent with its more durable molecular structure, but would still be very mild, biodegradable, made from plant-based surfactants, tough on stains, and exceptionally clean rinsing. Thus was born Sal Suds. Scented with Siberian Fir needle and White Spruce essential oils, Sal Suds is free of synthetic fragrance, dyes, or preservatives. And it's highly concentrated. Just a tiny amount of Sal Suds will do for most situations. In the last 24 hours, I've used Sal Suds on laundry (both machine and a handwash), handwashing dishes, counters, my tile floor, carpet, a seat cushion, automotive grease, and dog food bowls. My life would be so much harder without it. If you look at this picture closely, you'll notice some language that we no longer use. For example, 45 years ago, when this label was written, "organic" was a synonym for plant-based. It also specifically mentions that it will clean "all your undies." I have no idea why that particular article of clothing made the label. It does, in fact, clean all your laundry. Or at least all of mine. The bottle also mentions using it for skin and hair, and while the ingredients in Sal Suds are actually better than what you'll find in many conventional body washes and shampoos, we now recommend the Castile Soap for body care with its even milder formulation...con't in comments.
