I wrote the final words of our Rep podcast 🟦 at a cemetery and in the pouring rain. The words were for a chapter titled “Alive,” the full circle moment from our first episode, “Vanished.” ⠀ I had written so many drafts for the final outro but none them were “IT.” I always refer to IT as “receiving” my outros because the stories of Rep feel so deeply divine. This was taking longer, and my deadline was quickly approaching. Even when I trusted it was on its way, i found myself shouting at the sky, “god! I did everything I could think of to be open! Can you please send the outro now!” ⠀ Finally, at my second to last draft, my Rep co-writer @Zaron3 straight up told me to write “something that makes you feel naked on stage.” And then it hit me. I was still trying to control the story, how the listener would receive it, and how much of myself I was willing to share. ⠀ One of the rituals born from Rep is me and @adamkhafif’s morning cemetery walk. The walks were our secret. Sharing this secret would make me “feel naked on stage.” ⠀ One morning, when Adam saw I was struggling to write, he asked me, “do you want to just go on a cemetery walk?” He usually never interferes when I’m writing...and that’s why I immediately said yes. He’s always been a guide. ⠀ It was pouring rain. I had no idea what would happen. And, as soon as i got to the cemetery and started pacing, the words started pouring out of me so fast I could barely keep up. Once, when my phone was too wet to type, I looked up and saw Adam sitting across from me with his eyes closed, getting totally soaked, and physically holding space for me to write. He sat like that for 45 minutes straight. And when it got too much, he got up and left, creating even more space for me to write, weep, and laugh hysterically. The rain from the sky felt like a shower of Rep blessings. ⠀ This video is a recreation of that moment. The words I’m reciting are my final words on the Rep podcast.
