Griots of the Crenshaw district is a beautiful, yet aggressive composition produced by my dear friend and super producer @hitboy . I love going to Hitboy for a lot of things & when I needed something to feel this type of energy on my album I knew he had what it would take.Hitboy is a master at manipulating frequencies,creating special rhythm patterns & much more ! After I got the beat I sat down with my brother @kamasiwashington . We met at @larrabeestudios late one night and was discussing different ideas and playing different Melodies on our saxophones as the beat that Hitboy did for me was looping over & over again. A room full of love, amazing weed smoke and fresh spring water. After Kamasi & I recorded the saxophones I decided to call @robertglasper to come and play a final layer of Rhodes on this record . I’m happy with the outcome. It feels like the Crenshaw district. #SoundsOfCrenshaw
