#EXHIBITION 《Floating Truth》 2022. 10. 26 – 2022. 11. 27 Gana Art Nineone : Nicole Dyer Nicole Dyer (b. 1991) speaks about the excess of information and rampant consumerism through her depiction of objects that can be easily found in the contemporary era. In this exhibition, Dyer presents a series of works inspired by vanitas painting from the 17th century which delivers a message about the transience of life and earthly pleasures, as she detected that the problem people had a few centuries ago still continues today. The cake with bubblegum pink frosting in this work symbolizes human desires for sensory pleasures, while explicitly showing how it gets rotten and becomes unsightly with a flock of ants after a moment of joy. With glitter, stickers, or plastic objects attached to the surface of the canvas, the artist tricks the eye of the viewer, blurring the line between the real and the painted. @steakbagel 디지털 시대 정보의 과잉과 과소비, 그리고 대중문화를 주제로 작품을 선보이는 니콜 다이어(b. 1991)는 이번 전시에서 17세기 네덜란드에서 성행했던 정물화의 한 장르인 바니타스 회화에서 영감을 받아 탄생한 정물화를 선보인다. 인간의 욕망과 세속적인 삶의 덧없음을 해골, 깃털, 촛불, 꽃 등으로 표현한 바니타스 회화에서 작가는 수 세기 전 사람들이 느꼈던 과욕의 문제가 오늘도 변함없이 이어지고 있음을 포착하고 이를 현대적인 정물화로 재탄생시켰다. 그의 화면 속에 등장하는 화려한 색감의 케이크는 감각적 쾌락에 대한 인간의 욕망을 상징하는 동시에, 일시적인 기쁨의 시간을 지나 부패하고 흉물스럽게 변해가는 과정을 적나라하게 드러낸다. 다이어는 사실적으로 표현한 화면에 글리터나 플라스틱, 또는 점토로 만든 오브제를 더해 그림 속 정물이 캔버스라는 틀 너머로 떠 오르는 듯한 환영을 주며 감각의 자극을 극대화한다.
