We are in the final days of Katherine Tzu-Lan Mann’s spectacular show, “Land’s End,” on view through May 28, 2022. Thank you to everyone who made an appointment to see the show in-person or digitally via our 3D tour (link in our bio). “Land’s End” departs from Mann’s earlier bodies of work in that they are, according to the artist, more thoroughly autobiographical in nature, “relating more specifically to my lived experience, my personal relationship to art history, Chinese and Taiwanese histories, and especially cultural estrangement.” With the notion of the “land” tied deeply to understandings of cultural and national identity, Mann, who is biracial, carefully unpacks how her practice is both situated within and negotiates between the Chinese and Western canons of landscape painting.
