The dark, concerned look in my eyes last night at Magic City in Atlanta right before the livestream says it all: this could end horribly tonight. 😳😳😳
The energy and tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Most told me that it would never happen. Leave it alone. You don’t want to get involved in that. But as I woke up to another day of reading about yet another one of our young brothers such as Pop Smoke, King Von or Mo3 being killed in retaliatory street violence, it felt necessary and timely. Necessary to roll the dice on something could have easily resulted in endless schadenfreude and told you so’s, but the positive upside for our community was too big. After countless deep one-on-one discussions with Jeezy and Gucci, with some help in the final steps from @qcmceo_p, it felt like it was time to do this. To create a teachable, lead-by-example moment for our rudderless street culture. If these gentlemen can get over it, you can too. Resolution, communication and healing — steps in the process that we aren’t taught as black men. I’m very, VERY proud of Jeezy and Gucci for being so evolved and mature to see it the same way. Hopefully our community can learn from this in a real way. And, by the way, tell me another executive you know who would go into the trenches like this, yet all these guys want to profit off of our culture.
This was Nobel Peace Prize worthy last night.
Each one teach one. ✊🏾🔥
