I decided to share a little bit about my experience with egg freezing because someone out there might be contemplating it and might benefit from this by either learning a little bit about the process or maybe help with the ambivalence someone is feeling regarding this decision. Even though a lot of people might think that egg freezing is only done by women who are in their 30s and still haven’t found a partner, I want to raise awareness that egg freezing is recommended for several reasons: 1- Medical condition that might affect fertility 2- Undergoing treatment that might impact fertility in the future 3- Undergoing IVF 4- Wishing to preserve healthy and younger eggs for future use For me, I wanted to free myself of the burden of having to “catch the train” ⏳ I am married and I am 33 but I still don’t know which day I will wake up feeling not just “Ready” but also excited to bring a child into the world. Yes, I want to be excited for that. Bringing a child into the world is worth being excited for and something I want to do on my own terms. And when that day comes, I truly hope it will still happen. I am not guaranteeing the future but I am taking control of what is within my control. Egg freezing felt a a decision that will allow me the choice since I am someone who values having a choice and exercising freedom. Whatever your reasons are, acknowledge them and discuss them with someone knowledgable and someone you trust. Always respect your body, your freedom of choice and be with people who respect your body and your freedom of choice.
