What they do not tell you about when you are
diagnosed with cancer..
...is that it is so life changing that there is a pretty
strong chance you will feel like you have lost the
person you were pre-diagnosis 🙄
I certainly did.
I did not even recognise myself after surgeries, hair loss, weight gain, etc etc and these are just the physical aspects...
Mentally I was not the same due to trauma, chronic fatigue, loss of organs, going into early menopause, mental fog and just dealing with the day to day challenge of living.
Now as the years have passed and I realised I was never going to have a time where I wasn't undergoing treatments due to the cancer being incurable...
I decided I was going to get myself back.
So I focused on my health, wellbeing and mental
state with the goal to feel as close as I was able to -to who I was before cancer.
It is constant work and not easy but is worth it!
Just know that it is ok to loose yourself along the way when dealing with trauma but you can and will get yourself back if it is really something you want to work on.
Have you felt like you have lost yourself at some point in life?
What did you do to “get yourself back”?
