SUPPORT THE #TeacherStrike ✊🏼 Teachers across the UK today are going on strike. The mass walkout isn’t just about pay, it’s much more than that. Nearly one-third of teachers who qualified in the last decade have quit. And can you blame them? Teachers work more unpaid overtime than any other profession, with working weeks of 55-60 hours as the norm. The unstainable workload, overbearing expectations, insufficient funding and resources and inadequate support for SEN and EAL students means that ALL pupils get less dedication, attention, quality teaching and support. The reality is that the government missed its target for new secondary school teachers by 41% this year. This means many children are taught by staff who are not qualified in the subject they’re teaching. Our primary schools have the largest class sizes in Europe and don’t even get me started on the lack of support and resources for extracurricular activities, well-being and developing important life skills. I appreciate that some parents and caregivers have had to take time off work today, but trust me when I say that teachers don’t WANT to be on strike today, they want to be in the classroom. But if you care about children’s education, then please support the strikes because the British education system is at a crisis point. Thank you to all the incredible schools and staff I’ve worked with over the last decade, we stand with you. 🪧 #Teachers #Education #EducationSystem #Strikes #PublicSector #Unions #Union #IndustrialAction #NEUnion #teacher #teachersofinstagram #school #teaching #student #learning #classroom
