As many of you know last year I had the honor of skiing off of Denali which is on the lands of Dënéndeh. It was with an amazing crew of men which included my close friend @plp_mcafee. I’m proud to say that Pete and I made history and were the first people with a disability to ski off of the tallest mountain in North America. I say this not to go on an ego trip and mark my territory. No. I say this to express that as Disabled people many of us do not have the access and opportunities to be able to achieve our summits and our own visions of success. Mine being Denali. But when we do, powerful narratives are created; life-changing stories are shared to help breakdown biases and make our world that much more accessible and inclusive for everyBODY. This experience was the culmination of everything I knew about backcountry travel in the winter and I owe it to all 6 of us to make this journey a reality. Without a doubt, I know that this was pushing our bodies to their limits, Disabled or not. I’m so grateful to have Pete and my amazing teammates by my side: @benjifarrar @erichroepke @steinretzlaff and @tedhesser. So glad we made safe and caring decisions to be able to make it home with all of our odd appendages intact.
