We are excited to present four works by Kate Groobey (@kategroobey) in collaboration with Platform! "I Like to Lick," 2022 was inspired by the memory of enjoying ice cream in Venice with both the artist's wife and the artist's curator. The composition focuses on the moment that Groobey’s wife, Jina Khayyer, explained mischievously why a cup of ice cream cannot replace a cone—saying, "I like to lick." Full of awkward innuendo, the moment stuck in the artist's memory and was later translated into this painting. Groobey's work encompasses drawing, painting, live performance and video. Each of her compositions explores one of her personal experiences, depicting moments from her relationship with her wife. Groobey's work explores the androcentric canon of painting from a feminist and queer perspective. By employing the tactics of British humor—including innuendo, parody, absurdity, surreality, macabre and self-deprecation—Groobey offers up punchy depictions of the human condition. Stay tuned for more! Pictured: Kate Groobey / "I Like to Lick," 2022 / Watercolor on paper / 39.4 x 27.5 in (100 x 69.8 cm)
