Easter Sunday is in theaters now! The first wide studio released film about a Filipino family with a predominantly Filipino cast. Why is this a big deal? Because you haven’t had access to a story about us at your local movie theater before! You may have hit up your art house theater or special screenings in your town to check out amazing, indie movies like Yellow Rose to feel represented. You probably watched various movies and TV, googling to see if this actor, that writer, those dancers etc. are filipino. I did that (I still have to do that) but hopefully this is just the first of many, many projects we will see on small and big screens that are about us! Inspiring more Filipinos and Asians in the industry to create and tell their own stories. @jokoy did an amazing and selfless thing! He used his unique voice that makes him a comic that sells out arenas, to uplift and open doors for other Filipino artists. He chose to share his spotlight to showcase an ensemble cast of talented Filipino actors in his first starring film. I am forever grateful for his generosity and for the opportunity. I can only hope I can return the favor in one way or another. Please, please, please go to the theater and support this film. If you are not Filipino, or not even Asian, watch this movie to see and experience a different voice. We need the numbers to help show that our stories matter and so that more of you can see more of you. Mabuhay!
