”We wanted to be like the Harlem Renaissance but trans. Trans women writing for other trans women. Writing for each other raised the bar on what we said. When you are writing for a cis audience and you’re explaining trans things, if you would explain something like here’s what hormones do people would be like “oh, wow, hormones”. But if I want to tell a trans woman about hormones I have to come up with something really interesting for her. I have to tell her something that she hasn’t experienced herself week in and week out.
