Family Since moving to an island, it’s taken on a new meaning. Treasuring the time when our little trio gets visits from family on the mainland but also redefining what family ‘Ohana’ means which is so lovingly emphasized here as part of island tradition. School teachers and friends are called ‘aunties’ and ‘uncles’ and the warmth of hearts extends way beyond the lapping waves! There’s still the challenges of finding balance. I still wish I soaked up more of what the islands have to offer on a regular basis and battle my own ingrained workhorse mentality and perfectionist ways. But after an incredibly busy day, landing on our local beach for a takeout dinner is something definitely worth a lot of mahalos!
