Hey industry fam! It’s 2023 and right out of the gate I wanted to put this guide back in your sphere. As many of you know I wrote this back in June 2020. I was reading it over this morning just thinking about how and where I think we’ve made progress, and no question, there was a dent made, however, this list is still unfortunately very much relevant. So for 2023 I’m asking our industry not to abandon the task, and to make sure we keep this list on our things to do. I’m talking to brands, production teams, top hair stylists, influencers, educators, salon owners, and anyone with decision making power in this industry. Please understand that the topic of inequities and discrimination isn’t a fad for Black artists, it’s our real lives. We don’t have the luxury to move on. The truths behind the items on this list are truths that directly impact our careers, our finances, our families, our legacies. The damage is very much real and tangible.
