I’m so thankful to be involved in this exhibition which opened last week at The Barbican in London. Thanks to Sam Roddick for bringing me on board and to Sônia Guajajara and Célia Xakriabá for allowing me to illustrate their Love Letter to the Earth. Thanks to Anna Murray, Alice Aedy, Beatriz Patarata, The Barbican and the @earthrise.studio team. _____ SMIKRA WAHIKWA: THE FUTURE IS ANCESTRAL For the last 9 months, we have been working in co-creative partnership with Choose Earth: a collaboration between indigenous and non-indigenous creatives, “a coming together to reseed our heartfelt imaginations by re-building loving relationships with each other and the world we live in,” says Choose Earth co-creator @samantharoddick We collaborated with #ChooseEarth on an interactive indigenous-led installation entitled “Smikra Wahikwa: The Future is Ancestral,” which can be found at the heart of the 'Our Time On Earth’ exhibition – on now at the @barbicancentre curated by @franklintill The Hanging 'Fabric Forest' installation asks us to imagine a world where the future is indigenous. This immersive installation acts as a love letter to Earth, with words by the indigenous leaders @celia.xakriaba and @guajajarasonia paired with the illustrations of @mishkawestell across a fabric forest co-created with Samantha Roddick @earthrise.studio and @patternity Although Indigenous communities comprise less than 5% of the world’s population, they protect 80% of the Earth’s biodiversity. Indigenous communities' Earth-centric values and practices hold many of the answers to the healing of our planet. We must join and deeply listen to these protectors of the last biodiverse areas left on Earth. #chooseearth #chooselove #barbican #thebarbican #indigenousintelligence #indigenousknowledge #indigenouscosmology #weareearth #wearenature #ourtimeonearthexhibition #ourtimeonearth #indigenousrising #earthrise #patternity #mishkawestell
