I actually did the first variation of this makeup with some friends in Singapore back in 2017 and really wanted to revisit it. It was based on a popular superstition of not picking up a woman in a red dress at night because it’s believed that wearing a red dress to unali*e yourself meant you wanted to come back as a spirit to exact revenge on someone who wronged you I designed the Lady in Red as a lounge singer from the 1950s (I was really inspired by Chinese pin up art from the period I remember seeing growing up in Singapore) who slit her wrists and jumped after her lover left her for someone else. The flowers spilling from her wounds were inspired by artists like Yamamoto Takato who seamlessly blends viscera and floral motifs 🖤 I picked white chrysanthemums because in Chinese culture they are most commonly associated with death Thank you @angelmydarling for embodying her and bringing her to life at @monsterpaloozaofficial 2022 and @emiliawerynska for the assistance with application.
